The Art of Playing a Singing Bowl: A Beginner’s Guide to Sound Healing

How to play Singing Bowl: A Beginner’s Guide

Singing bowls are powerful instruments used for meditation, relaxation, and sound healing. Playing a singing bowl is more than just creating sound—it's about connecting with its vibrations and experiencing its calming energy. In this guide, we’ll walk you through the two most common methods: striking and rimming (rubbing).

 Materials you’ll need

  • Singing bowl
  • Leather Mallet (wooden or leather-wrapped)
  • Drum Mallet

.A cushion or surface to place the bowl (to prevent slipping or dampening of sound)

Method 1: Striking the Bowl

  •   Hold the mallet lightly in your dominant hand.
  •  Gently strike the outer rim of the bowl with a firm but controlled motion.
  •  Allow the sound to resonate and fade naturally.
  • For variation, experiment with striking different parts of the rim and adjusting the strength of your strike.

Method 2: Rimming(Rubbing) bowl

       1. Hold the bowl steady on in your palm.

2.Grasp the mallet firmly but not too tightly.

        3. Place the mallet against the bowl's outer rim at a slight angle.

        4. Apply gentle pressure and move the mallet around the rim in a circular motion.

5 .Gradually increase speed until the bowl produces a continuous, resonant hum.

Playing a singing bowl is not just about producing sound but connecting with its energy. As you play, allow yourself to feel the vibrations flowing through your body and mind. Ready to start your journey with singing bowls? Explore our handcrafted bowls and mallets collection, and let us guide you to the perfect match.
